№ 020 · The Kept Stones at Rainford Crossing

Watercolor over graphite: a neat line of flat grey stepping-stones crossing a high brown flooded stream at Rainford Crossing, one stone near the bank sitting slightly askew, fallen oak leaves and acorns in the foreground.

World fragment

At Rainford Crossing, the acornfall water runs high and brown, yet the grey stones still keep their tidy line. Each top is worn smooth by small crossings and weather. One near the bank sits slightly crooked, newly nudged back after the rain. The keeper left no print, only passage made possible again.

The ledger is still being written.
