From the ledger of the Gleaners

№ 018 · The Bottle Cap That Held the First Rain

Watercolor over graphite: a red bottle cap catching rainwater like a small basin, ringed by fallen acorns and an oak-leaf sprig, two floating leaf fragments on the water's surface.

Recovered object

Found rim-up beneath the hazel, the red cap caught the first cold rain of acornfall. By morning it held a bright, trembling cupful, leaf-specked and sound. The ledger marks it as a small roof for thirst, proof that even a castaway thing may keep watch.

The ledger is still being written.
