From the ledger of the Gleaners

№ 017 · The Safety Pin at Acornfall

Watercolor over graphite: an open brass safety pin holding three fallen oak leaves together like a small roof, a dry hollow beneath them, and scattered acorns in the leaf litter.

Recovered object

Found at the first acornfall, an open brass safety pin held three oak leaves together against the rain. By morning the hollow beneath was dry, though no pawprints remained to claim it. The ledger marks it as small providence: a dangerous thing made briefly gentle by weather, weight, and need.

The ledger is still being written.
