№ 010 · The Penny at Rainford Crossing

Watercolor over graphite: a small stone brook crossing at creature scale, a copper penny set gleaming on the highest stepping stone, brown flood-lines through wet grass, and a pair of unbroken twig rails guarding the path.

World fragment

Entered at first light: Rainford Crossing held. The brook ran high in the night, leaving brown comb-lines through the grass and silt on the lower stones. By dawn, the penny-marker still shone on the top step, with twig rails unbroken and moss plugs dry beside it. Small proof, but enough: the way home was passable.
